MXR Carbon Copy - rare prototype & hidden mod adjust

Rare prototype of a flat green (not the production sparkle green) MXR Carbon Copy analog Delay.

Not everyone knows this but inside the chassis are two trim pots which let you dial in rate an depth for the delay modulation. This is preset at the factory and mod is only externally available on the pedal as an on/off switch. Cool that they made the adjustment semi user accessible internally rather than fixed.

why would you say not everyone knows about the trim pots? they see them when they put in the battery. maybe a couple guys who only use ac adpaters may miss them for a little while, but the trimmers are so talked about on the net that i think everyone knows, as who doesnt research products these days? not many mysteries left thanks to the web.

I guess it could have been phrased better. How about: Some people may be pleasantly surprised, if they didn’t know already, that there are internal trim pots to adjust mod and depth.
    Thanks for the comment.

    Internal Trim pots!!
    Yay…?

Let’s just say that I was in LOVE with my CC before I adjusted my trims…
    Ummmmmmmmmm, yeah.

I kind of forgot to take a pic of what the factory settings were BEFORE the adjustment. Now I’m scrambling to see if I can’t get it sounding the way it did…

    :(

This is an important point. DO NOT adjust any of the surface mount trimmers on the carbon copy on the “potentiometer side” of the pcb. Those are set at the factory for the bucket brigade chip biasing. Messing with those will mess up your sound and without the proper tools you will not be able to get your CC working well again.

The trim pots referred to in this article are for mod speed and depth. They can be adjusted without any fear of breaking your CC because they only affect the mod parameters. Be sure to note their factory position before changing the settings though as Walt says above!
