This new pedal features an opto compressor fashioned after vintage circuits. The OB.1 also has and integrated clean boost with selectable frequency shaping if you are wanting a mid or treble boost as well.

From the site: “Everything you love about studio optical compressors … right at your feet … From beautifully subtle and transparent compression to vintage squash … Integrated foot-switchable Clean, Treble and Mid boost … TRUE BYPASS … Crafted with love in the USA”

I’ve just replaced the BYOC (build your own clone) compressor with the Strymon OB.1 on my pedalboard. The BYOC was a Ross/MXR clone that used a blend control to mix in my unprocessed sound with the compressed sound. I have an old MXR dynacomp as well, but I had replaced that with the higher-quality BYOC about a year ago. I had noticed that even with the BYOC mix set to all unprocessed sound, some of the high frequencies are lost. My new OB.1 doesn’t do that, leaving me with a sound that is more true to the original signal, but with a transparent compression, at any level I want, and with far less noise. Run before my Xotic BB Preamp, there is noticeably less hiss with the OB.1 compared to the BYOC, and boost function complements the BB very well. The OB.1 is much quieter, more transparent, and doesn’t roll off the high end like my other compressors did. I’m loving this Strymon OB.1 compressor pedal!
